A magnanerie is a substantial building which was once used for the breeding of silkworms and the collection of silk thread. The Cévennes used to be famous for its silk production and many old magnaneries may still be seen in the region. The Cévennes supplied the Lyon silk merchants, who would sell their high-quality silks throughout Europe and its royal courts.
The Magnanerie then, is an authentic 18th century building which as been restored and serves as an impressive witness to the past in its beautiful natural setting in the heart of the Cévennes foothills.
